Bob Hope

I turned on the television last Wednesday to watch a golf tournament and the next thing I knew I was watching a football game. Seven under par (Touchdown!) seemed to be the order of the day.

First it was Mike Weir shooting a 62 and then Pat Perez fires a 61. For a while he flirted with 59. But they were not the only ones.

By Saturday Weir was well under par, into double digits and he was tied for 12th. Stricker was something like 32 under and leading the pack.

Then Sunday Stricker had one bad hole and Perez jumped into the lead and won at 33 under. Weir jumped all the way to third with a 5 under round for a tournament total of 28 under. Meanwhile the usually steady Stricker ballooned to 5 over and slumped to a third place tie with Weir.

The exciting leaderboard with players going lower and lower each day making great shots combined with color provided by the amateurs from Hollywood, the music world and other professional athletes makes the Bob Hope one of my favorite tournaments.

Chips Shots: Weir's steady play makes me wonder if the little guy from Bright's Grove is going to rebound to the upper levels of the world points board. Maybe he will make another Presidents Cup team and he and Tiger could have another Sunday rematch.
