The Phil Ritson-Mel Sole Golf School

The Phil Ritson-Mel Sole Golf School is another of the great South Carolina golf schools.

Established in 1990, its corporate website says that this golf school prides itself in being a golf learning institution for golfers of all ages and abilities.

The host golf course is the Pawleys Plantation Golf Course located on Pawley Island South Carolina. This award winning Jack Nicklaus Signature designed golf course is laid out to take advantage of the giant oak trees and salt marshes of the Carolina low country.

Students attending the Phil Ritson-Mel Sole Golf School can either avail themselves of the on-site accommodations or commute each day of the program.

The three day golf programs start every Monday and Thursday. When you enroll you have the option of signing up for morning (9am -12:30pm) or afternoon (1:30pm – 5:00 pm) sessions. The class maximum is 4 students per instructor.

Your first day of the program begins with a discussion between you and your instructor to determine your level of golf ability as well as what you would like to achieve during your time at golf school. As well, your personality profile is completed to help the instructor determine your best learning style.

After this process is complete video is shot of you hitting golf balls with a five iron. Then, you and the instructor will view the video to determine what aspects of the golf swing will be worked upon. Then you will go to the practice tee and given drills to help improve your golf swing. The rest of the first session is spent on the practice range working on the drills.

The second day begins with an hour on the practice tee continuing the drills learned the previous day. Next, the instructor will move on to lessons on either pitching and bunker shots, or chipping and putting. Note, that whichever is not done on second day will be taught on the third day. Once again, use is made of video equipment as you will be taped during you workout. Near the conclusion of the lesson, you will go with your instructor to the viewing room to analyze the tape and decide what work is needed to continue improvement on the golf swing.

After classes on the second day, students have the option of taking an on-course playing lesson. This subject to availability of an instructor and of course available tee times. This event is subject to an additional charge.

Day three begins with work on the woods. Then, you and your instructor move back to the short game and work on the techniques not taught the previous day. Once this lesson is completed, it is back to the viewing room to gauge how you are progressing through the program. You will receive a personal lesson tape to take home to help you continue to practice what was learned at the golf school. Students are given information about the golf school’s follow-up service via the internet.

As well as the three day program, students may sign up for one and two day golf sessions or book private lessons according to availability.
