Tomorrow another Open begins. Frankly, Tiger's absence does not influence me at all. After all, Tiger does not win every major and certainly the Open offers a unique venue (no matter where it is played)compared to any of the other three majors. For that reason my Open - Picks are made using another criteria. Course management and short game are essential. But, I do think for one selection, Sergio Garcia, the key element is wanting to rectify last year's 18th hole debacle and subsequent playoff lose to Padraig Harrington.
Talk about an Odd Couple threesome Colin Montgomery, Boo Weekley and Mike Weir.
The popular Weir will have to deal with sometimes truculent Monty and Boo, well Boo is Boo and the Brits will either love him or hate him. Anyways this a group that could be very interesting to follow.
Picks
1/ I would like to choose the defending champion (Harrington). But a bum wrist will likely keep him from successfully defending his title.
2/ Sergio Garcia (revenge for last year) has to be a favorite.
3/ Short game and course management make Jim Furyk my second choice.
4/ Long Shot should be Luke Donald but he is out with an injury so for the same reasons as Donald and Furyk, Mike Weir has to be considered a possible champion. If Mike could just put four rounds together he would be back in the top 10. But, it seems that he has a great 54 holes and then a final 18 meltdown.
5/ Personal Favorite to win: Miguel Angel Jimenez. He just always seems to be somewhere near the top of every tournament.
Good Luck with your picks. I would like hear your picks and reasons.
