Mike Weir jumped to the top of the leaderboard at the RBC Canadian Open today. Mind you, he is tied with young gun Anthony Kim and Eric Axley at 6 under 65.
Unfortunately, then the rains came. And the downpour continued. Making the completion of the opening round impossible.
I like Weir to win this tournament. After all, it would be a fitting next step after Canada's favorite golfer beat Tiger in the President's Cup last September. But, as I said last week, he seems unable to put four solid rounds together. If he had played his fourth round last week like he did any of his other rounds he would have been contending with Padraig for the Open title.
My other favorites this week include last year's champ Jim Furyk and today's co-leader Kim.
The Evian Tournament over on the LPGA tour is loaded with great golfers, but I can't help but think Ochoa has a lock on it. But, if there is contender, Paula Creamer gets my vote. Longshot or darkhouse? Gotta go with Angela Stanford. She is just plain consistent week in and week out.
Michele Wie. Who really cares if she is playing in a PGA event next week. She is a sideshow at best. Until she settles down and sticks to the LPGA to hone her skills, especially her tournament skills, she is going nowhere fast.
